As a photographer, I am always looking through the lens to find the best light, pose, personality, etc. It is really nice to hang em' up for the winter and go to the Zoo with NO expectations, other than capturing my daughter and my nieces having the greatest time at the zoo. I didn't care if the backgound was washed out, bringing light on them was not even on my mind, I am not even really quite sure what aperture I was on while shooting...it was purely fun, sometimes you just have to not worry about the little things.
